The Lamanage

A Story...

The construction of increasingly larger ships has necessitated the emergence of a new approach in mooring operations.

In Italy, in the port of Genoa, historians have found traces of the existence of a mariners’ guild established in 1340, whose activity was mooring and assisting ships in the port.

Le Lamanage

A profession...

The term “Lamanage” refers to the operations of mooring, unmooring, and unmooring ships (intra-port movements). Lamanage is a service available to ships 24/7, 365 days a year.

Today, the role of the Lamanage professional is diversifying, with new activities such as pollution control, intra-port supply operations, the installation of quay fenders, small-scale towing, crew supplemental services, and the provision of nautical resources. The profession is also modernizing with the introduction in 2026 of the Shore Tension dynamic mooring system, which will allow for better securing of ships to the quayside.
